Role of the Department


The Building and Zoning Department administers the city's building and zoning codes. The department performs building plan review, zoning site plan review, and conducts occupancy and property maintenance inspections.

The department is headed by Mr. Bob Vogel who serves as the city's Building Commissioner.

Building Permits Required:

  • FENCE
  • SHED
  • INTERIOR REMODEL (DRYWALL, FRAMING, ETC.)
  • ROOF REPLACEMENT
  • DECK (NEW OR REPLACE/REPAIR)
  • FRONT/BACK PORCH (NEW OR REPAIR/REPLACE)
  • DRIVEWAY (ASPHALT OR CONCRETE)
  • STAIRS (EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR)
  • EGRESS WINDOWS
  • DUMPSTER/POD (MUST BE IN DRIVEWAY)
  • POOL (ABOVE AND IN GROUND)
  • HANDRAILS, GUARDRAILS AND SPINDLES
  • FOUNDATION REPAIR
  • SUMP PUMP INSTALL
  • EXTERIOR WINDOW & DOOR FRAME (ONLY IF CHANGING EXISTING SIZE)
  • SOLAR PANELS
  • ANY NEW CONSTRUCTION (HOME, HOUSE ADDITION, ETC.)
  • ANY DEMOLITION WORK (HOME, DETACHED STRUCTURES)

    *WE ALWAYS ADVISE THAT IF THEY ARE UNSRUE IF WORK REQUIRES A PERMIT          TO CALL CITY HALL*


*ALL HVAC, PLUMBING AND ELECTRIC MUST BE APPLIED BY LICENSED                   CONTRACTOR THROUGH ST. LOUIS COUNTY.  THE CITY DOES CHECK ST. LOUIS COUNTY PERMITS WHEN NEEDED TO ENSURE THE CORRECT PERMITS WERE         PULLED*
